We purchased the Phil & Teds Nest travel bassinet for our daughter, who is currently 3.5 months old and weighs about 13 lbs. We just used it for the first time last week, for 3 days away from home, and plan to use it again at least 2 more times in the near future.

Basically, the Travel Nest is a collapsible bassinet that stores in its own separate compartment on the bottom of the included duffle bag, and the top compartment of the duffle bag can be used to pack other stuff, such as clothing, diapers, etc. When in use, the bassinet portion is removed from the storage duffle completely.

I purchased the nest primarily to use as a Carry-on for air travel. It is advertised to be used for this, however, as I planned for our first trip I was shocked to realize that the dimensions are too large for the Carry-on allowance (under 45 inches in total dimension). Needless to say the bed is great for car trips and we loved it, but don't buy it expecting to take it on the plane with you.

Our baby used the Nest bed from birth through seven months old when she started rolling over. By this time her feet were stretching out the end of the bed (she is tall, 99th percentile for height) but slept as soundly as she did in the early days. Great for traveling, it is very compact, lightweight and extra useful being able to pack all the baby necessities for a week away - in the same bag as the bed! The only room for improvement we could see would be a darker color choice. On occasion the sides of the Nest bed did reflect light onto the baby - not a big deal, we just moved the bed but it was noticeable in locations that weren't as dark as her room at home. Again, not really an issue for us, just a point of note. We have been delighted with this super little bed and recommend it highly.

First: The Nest. We used in from when my daughter was born to 5 months old. Safe napping spot for day trips or afternoons out in the yard, overnight bassinet for out-of-town travel, including a month-long work trip where the whole family came. We even used it instead of the crib when the one-week-old had a cold and elevating the head of the Nest just a little on a folded-up blanket let her breathe more easily. Great storage -- we packed for Mama and baby, including diapers, for a week-long trip (granted, we had laundry facility access), twice, in the bag. Easy to set up and put away. Recommend putting a pillowcase or receiving blanket as a sheet -- the little buggers do emit various fluids, the mattress is fairly easy to sponge and dry in the sun but even easier if you don't have to do that in the first place.

But can I talk about Phil & Teds customer service for a minute? I'd give them ten stars if I could. A snap broke as we were unboxing our Nest -- non-weightbearing, it holds the handle to the side for easy (EMPTY) carrying of the set-up Nest. It's a piece that cost maybe a quarter, and probably wouldn't impair function, but it shouldn't have broken when we hadn't even used it yet. Contacted customer service to get recommendations on where to get it fixed...AND THEY SENT US A NEW ONE. A whole new Nest for a 25-cent defect! I was amazed. And naturally, have told everybody I know who's expecting about it (and that's a lot!). The replacement hasn't had any problems, and the original has been loaned out to friends and doesn't seem to be performing any worse for the broken snap. I would buy again, would give as a gift, and recommend very very highly.

I bought this off Craigslist before giving birth in anticipation of a trip overseas to visit family and to travel for pleasure. At the time I had no idea how particular babies can be so in retrospect I totally lucked out. My baby is the cuddly type--sleeps best swaddled, used to only nap in my arms or in her carseat. She refused to sleep in various pack n' plays, however, she loved sleeping in this bassinet because of its coziness. Even though she's big for her age, she was able to use it up until around 5 months old when she became too active and too interested in rolling over in her sleep which there was definitely not enough space for here.

This product saved our ass big time on our vacation. All of her stuff for 3 weeks in two different climates fit in the storage section, amazing! The bassinet prevented us from having to cosleep with our very picky baby, and we didn't have to worry about each hotel having a suitable and safe crib when traveling to different places. I read people complaining that this wasn't the proper size to carry on, but my advice is to treat it as a suitcase and check it. Most airlines let you check a bunch of baby stuff for free and you don't want to carry extra stuff around the airport with a baby in tow!

In retrospect I would buy this product new because although the product comes with sheets to cover the mattress, our baby would regularly wet the mattress through the sheets.
