I thoroughly enjoyed Roach's writing style and well researched approach to a topic that I wasn't that excited to learn about. In this non-fiction work, the characters are doctors and scientists with a sense of humor and a strong desire for knowledge and for improving the human condition. Roach seamlessly weaves descriptions of her interviews and historical texts with unabashed puns and tongue in cheek references to topics generally avoided by "polite" society. I leaned more new terms and ideas from reading this book than from any graduate level class I have taken.
I still prefer the physical sciences (chem/physics teacher), but I understand better now the fascination of my colleagues in the life sciences. I suspect our book discussion on this text to be equally amusing and fascinating.
