The author has uncovered and/or assembled much unique information about Lincoln's travel from Springfield, such as what happened at each stop & the background of some of the people he traveled with or met with along the way. One strength was the many period photographs -- they weren't all highly visible on my Kindle but I was able to look some of the originals up on the internet. One weakness I found with the book was the incessant tangents, mostly small, from the main story. As if the author wanted to make use of each 3x5 card he collected during the research. The book would have been shorter and better by halving those tangents.
