Customer Review

I rarely give up on a book before finishing it, but I am going to do that for this one. The anachronistic language puts me off, although it might be a flaw in the translation; I don't like the hangman or his daughter very much, and the torture descriptions and talk of the executions are too gory for me. I know that death and killing was common in the 17th C Germany (and England and France), but I don't like its prominence in the book. I'm quitting even before I find out the killer!
