This film is deceptively entertaining. It starts off with a handful of friends taking a excursion into the woods. If you've seen enough of these types of films, then you already know what to expect: the group becomes hopelessly lost, goes hungry, suffers hypothermia, and starts dying off one by one. Add to this a malignant spectral entity in the woods that wants them dead, and what you have is an interesting blend of genres. You have the unseen monster in the woods as in "Blair Witch," and you also get the suspense of survival horror a la "127 Hours." The characters cope with their situation as best they can, but since they're ordinary city people who don't know how to get by in the wilderness, the odds are stacked against them. They make several costly mistakes, all of which are done up in a splendidly gruesome fashion.
