I had never read P.K. Dick before, and only came to this novel because of the Amazon Prime original series of the same name which I liked very much. First: the series is not much like the novel, although it borrows a few plot elements from it. Second: there are novelists who have the ability to tell a good story and who can also do so using a fine style of writing. PDK is not one of those novelists He *can* tell a good story, but he *cannot* do so with style. He reminds me of Stephen King, in that while his story is compelling, his writing style is not. Don't look for flashes of brilliance or nuance in this novel (if you want brilliance and nuance, watch the Amazon series). But if a mediocre writing style doesn't bother you, and a good story satisfies you, this book may do it for you. To my taste, it's only meh.
