I give this a weak “B” as far as a tightly written and convincing spy fiction. I tired of the navel watching of Harvath, the main character. There were a few really unbelievable situations such as when a highly trained team of covert operatives HALO inserts into enemy territory and then one of the team member dumbly ask, “What’s the plan”. Really, does it sound reasonable to ask what is the plan at that point? The same character had to be instructed on basic trade craft while on assignment. Also, the entire book ended on a disappointing whimper. And the final misstep was the overplayed attempt at a cliffhanger at the very end. Felt very amateurish and manipulative.
