Customer Review

Reviewed in the United States on November 9, 2018
The author and/or publisher misrepresents this book as a new history of America. It actually is a highly slanted survey of the plight of minorities and women since the Age of Columbus. Lepore has done some decent scholarship and research and her writing is readable. Her portrayals of William Jennings Bryant, Frederick Douglass, and the leaders of the women's suffrage movement, among others, are revealing. However, for the most part this is an extended leftwing diatribe condemning our history as totally racist with white males being the chief villains. Post World war I Democrats are for the most heroes and Republicans are cynical racists. The book is full of loaded language and opinions masquerading as facts. Not recommended.
