Edit: I may still have to return it due to temperature. This thing is currently idling at 105-108C on the "Platform Secret Screen" menu. The temp has slowly been increasing since install. Last night it was in the 80-85C range, although the unit itself is only warm to the touch. It's showing dark red on the temperature indicator, which I'm assuming is borderline overheating. Performance still seems to be adequate, and I haven't received any actual overheating warnings. I have it on an HDMI splitter well away from the TV, with plenty of airflow around it.
This device will do everything a FireTV can, and more, with a few shortcomings. Ps Vue for example has many less functions on the remote. On the FireTV, you can long press certain buttons and bring up alternate menu's (program info, add to DVR, go to channel, etc...). None of that is possible with the Roku. Kodi also cannot be loaded on it, as far as I can tell. The global search is a great feature, though. Search for an actor or movie, and it will show you which channels carry it and the price (or free). Overall. I think there are more free options to watch movies compared to the firetv.
Hi there. It sounds like the device is within the normal operating temperature. The temperature displayed on the menu isn't the external temperature, hence why the device only feels warm. As long as you aren't seeing an overheating notification on your screen, you should be good to go.
