This book scared my daughter (3.5) and she asked me not to ever read it again, even though I edited the parts about hitting, beating, biting etc. It should not be aimed at young children and frankly I'm not sure why the author thought it was appropriate material for a children's book. Every other sentence had some kind of violence, whether it was someone getting beaten or someone breaking all their teeth or a brass finger being bitten off. The synopsis really did not indicate how violent the story would be, and I'm puzzled by all the positive reviews saying young children loved the book. There seem to be many stories about this Irish giant and one of the less violent tales would have made a much better illustrated book.
