I very much liked the world-building in the books as they were very imaginative and refreshing, however I cannot recommend the series as the lack of character development was utterly astounding. The main, Alina, remains a whiney weak brat throughout all three books, rarely showing any growth in her character. Shes still in puppy-love with Mal, never realizes her full potential and when things go down she's either1) worrying if Mal is OK, 2) too confused to counter the enemy although she has all of this supposed incredible power or 3) totally taken off guard and unable to think on her feet in any situation that occurs. The entire trilogy I expected some growth, some show of gaining confidence, something showing that the lead had progressed in maturity (think Throne of Glass series). Instead we got a whiney kid that never accomplishes all these wonderous things that her "power" is supposed to manifest. I only completed the trilogy because I like to finish what I started but I finally gave up near the end of this book as I knew what the cookie-cutter ending would be. Avoid.
