These are nothing like the airy, flavorless snack cakes I buy from the grocery store when I don’t have time to bake from scratch! I was suprised by the price, but I’ll take this quality over quantity any day. The aroma of almond extract hits you the second you open the package, and the chocolate coating actually tastes like rich chocolate and not hydrogenated oil. The cake itself is nicely compact; it’s dense enough that it won’t crumble apart when you take a bite. I was a little disappointed that the raspberry jam kind of melts between the layers, but it does help keep the cake moist without making it gooey. I was hoping I’d be able to spread the packs out to make them last longer, but it takes at least two of these little cakebites to feel like a real dessert and the third in each package is inevitably requested by someone who catches me eating the first two. Expect to reluctantly share these with people who claim to never like pre-packaged baked goods.
