Although Lavin is a conservative writer, this book is very thoughtfully written that would be of interest to anyone. He discusses his concerns about the recent expansion of federal government and its intrusion on the authority of state and local governments, which are more easily under the control of people. He reviews the gradual rescending of the counterbalancing powers originally instituted in the Constitution. His inclusion of historical references, eg., quoting from writings of those working on the Constitution and their later concerns, rather than relying on personal opinion, was very informative.
