This is a silly little book that is good for a light read. Not sure if there's a good lesson to be had since Mr Hoppy basically deceives Mrs Silver constantly, but hey, who's to say there aren't different love stories to be had in this. The premise is pretty simple, a retired man pines for his downstairs neighbor, but he's a shy old fellow and find a way to talk to her. He pines to such an extent that he even resents and is jealous of Alfie, the receiver of Mrs Silver's love, who also happens to be a small turtle. She longs for the petite turtle to grow bigger and bigger but alas, Alfie is not one to rush things, as turtles prefer to do. Mr Hoppy overhears Mrs Silver's lament.... and gets an idea that begins with a little growth spell that begins with the "magical" words Esio Trot.
Whimsical and silly for the sake of being silly... and sometimes that's what we need to read.
