Having thoroughly enjoyed sharing K.G.Campbell’s whimsical illustrated books for younger children with my 6 year old granddaughter (ie., “Dylan the Villain” and “The Mermaid and the Shoe”, to name only two), I was fascinated to check out Campbell’s new “A Small Zombie Problem” for ages 8 to 12: “A Small Zombie Problem” is the introductory Book 1 of Campbell’s “Zombie Problems” series.
I was not disappointed (except, unfortunately, neither of my granddaughters are old enough yet to appreciate the complexities, language and length of this charming story book). “A Small Zombie Problem” is a gem. Magically written and illustrated to introduce unique yet deeply flawed characters, we are enchanted by the language, the detail, and the mysterious “undead” zombie.
Poor August, a lonely boy who has never had friends, only wants to belong. After he stands up for his zombie Claudette, his conniving cousin utters the words August never wants to hear: “You will never belong. Never!”
It’s an amazing adventure! I can’t wait to share this series with both of my grand girls!
