An okay book. A bit amateurish in some dialogue but still readable if you have nothing else around. Part of the problem might have been in the translation (German ==> English). Interesting historical facts that bear following up for the amateur historian like me. The plotting and characterizations were cliche and obvious (had the killer figured out early on); the death of one of the other antagonists (set ~1500) seemed very arbitrary and anti-climatic. Didn't like the borderline (weak) cliffhanger ending, meant to draw you into getting the next book. The effect it left on me, combined with the cliched dialogue between characters, more left me feeling like not bothering to follow-up. Still, OK for a first book by a new author.
