Customer Review

Bill Hirsch does a great job at giving the architect's perspective on building a custom home. The book is useful to anyone desiring to build a custom home; it will give them a great introduction to the process, how the architect thinks about the project, what the architect's job is as he designs the custom home for the customer and the things the customer needs to be aware of as they tackle a huge project they may never have tackled before. The book is, of course, not exhaustive, but it is a very good introduction to the entire process of building a home from the purchase of the property all the way to questions to ask a builder and how to hire one as well as how the architect and builder work together, with many details included on the steps in between regarding design, best placement of the house on the site, perspective of the size of the house and its parts and many other specific details that will require the close attention of the owner/customer. It's a great book to start with and is an interesting read.
