Was the author, D.K. Hood, frightened by writing this book! I would think so! The evil in this storyline is complicated and terrifying. We read the thoughts of the antagonist, but have no idea who it is. Again we meet Deputy David Kane in Book 4 of this series. He has a heroic background and is hiding out in Black Rock Falls from terrorists who may want to finish killing him. The sheriff Jenna Alton, is also in WitSec from being in the DEA, after having plastic surgery on her face. They have other really good deputies and they need them! Black Rock Falls is getting a reputation as being a tourist stop for a “history of brutal murders, although fishing 🎣 , hunting, and hiking are huge attractions.” So stretch your imagination, because this place attracts serial killers. Ugh! Alton and Kane hardly blink when they find a body attached to a tree in the local mountains 🏔. But they’re doing more than blinking by the end of the book!
This is a hard book to put down, wonderful characters, with lots of twists and surprises. The police procedures are detailed and interesting, especially the behavioral analysis done by Kane. This is an exciting and entertaining read!
