Customer Review

At first, as an adult, I looked upon the stubborn and somewhat selfish young woman as just the typical YA heroine. But being an old Dragonriders of Pern fan, I stuck with it because of the flying avian creatures. And surprisingly, this Heroine became more mature and likeable as the story progressed. Although the various 'sects' in this society were at first confusing, the world building slowly developed enough that I wasn't so lost.

Shades of Pern and Dune managed to combine into an interesting World and plotline. I could have wished for a longer book for the first in the series, but this one still managed to set things up acceptably for the next book. The ending was satisfying, although the bad guys are just beginning to become a major danger to the society.

I am intrigued enough that I'll likely continue with the series.
