I've read most of Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch series and each succeeding book has increasing levels of drama inserted that has nothing to do with mystery. If it's not Captain Irving Irving harassing Harry with IAD investigations it's having his daughter kidnapped or in this book a 'low life' prosecuting attorney trying to get Bosch after he's left the LAPD. It's reached the point of where Bosch stories by Connelly should not be listed under 'mystery' but instead under 'drama' - some believable drama or, too ofter, unbelievable drama. It's unfortunate because Connelly can write good mystery stories but the quality of that writing is taken down by the ridiculous and artificial drama that is always added.
