Ina Garten has just published her12th cookbook. That is an extraordinary feat. This cookbook is filled with modern comfort food. According to Ina, modern comfort food is food that is nourishing and emotionally satisfying. From my viewpoint this cookbook covers comfort food with a big oomph!
There are 6 chapters in this cookbook, cocktails, lunch, dinner, vegetables and sides, dessert and breakfast. My favorite chapters are lunch, dinner and dessert. An example of comfort food with an oomph is beef stew made with short ribs and lots of vegetables, tomato soup with cream, leeks, and Parmesan cheese, and applesauce cake with bourbon raisins. Ina has even brought back an old faithful with a new touch, kielbasa. The cookbook has words of wisdom from Ina, thanks to her cooking staff, a list of ingredients for your cupboard, and a list of sources for some of her foodstuffs.
The cookbook is 250 pages, and filled with exquisite photos of the food by photographer, Quentin Bacon. Each recipe has its own photograph. This is a cookbook for everyday to special meals, and it is one with new and varied foods.
