Our family was so excited to read another KG Campbell classic. We loved his gorgeously illustrated children's books, esp Lester's Dreadful Sweaters and The Mermaid and the Shoe, but sadly, the kids are starting to grow up and want more challenge from their reading! It happens so fast. :( When I heard about A Small Zombie Problem, I was so excited for our almost 12 year old Lucy. Who knew I would enjoy it as much as she has. Mr Campbell has created a slew of characters so rich in texture, backstory, idiosyncrasies and humor! Lucy loves the humor , the sweetness of the characters, esp shy August, and of course, the zombie. And the setting in the deep south/bayou country is sketched with so much authentic detail. That drew me in. We love his art style and only wish the entire book was filled with color illustrations rather than black and white. None of the YA books are done that way these days, I suppose. Since it is the first of a trilogy, we look forward to the next one! Bravo Mr Campbell!
