I read a lot of SciFi. There were some new SciFi ideas in the first 2 Confluence books (e.g., the Kubodera as telepathic ship navigator), but also some concepts (a space-faring, devouring race threatening all sentient worlds) that are getting a little too commonplace (in my opinion). More disagreeable to me, however, after reading Fluency (Confluence Book 1) and then Remanence (Book 2) was the amount of time spent developing a touchy feely/romantic relationship between two main characters. Hence the title for this review. A third book in the series is obviously coming. While the read was mildly entertaining (I tended to skip through the romantic stuff) I doubt I'm motivated enough by these first two to read the third.
