MY first foray into the world of Stephen King was in 1980 when I read Night Shift. I was 13 year sold, and I was hooked. Since then I've gobbled up everything he's ever written. Some of the books have stunk. From a Buick 8? No thanks. Lots of the endings have stunk; it is Stephen King, after all. But many many of the books have been terrific and deserved accolades galore!
If It Bleeds is one of his novella collections, and in it are examples of all of King's stories. The title story is great, as is the first story. The last story is a redone version of the Monkey's Paw. Fair to middling. And the 4th story is forgettable.
But that doesn't matter in these days of COVID-19. What matters is that each story is readable, and feels like sitting down with that person you've never really talked with before and having a fresh conversation with them. The stories go down easily with nothing to hold you back from devouring them and feelling like you just escaped from your Quartiacation.
