It’s hard to put into words how incredible Caro’s work on LBJ is. I think he said it best, when he emphasized that these volumes are “The Years of LBJ”. And that while the book’s protagonist is the president and his life, the author tells a wider story about American history and the role that power plays in shaping that history. This wider view is prominently on display in the fourth volume. The author’s mini-biographies of the Kennedy’s paint vivid portraits of the brothers, while constructing narrative foils to help us under LBJ and our country, on the whole. I can’t wait for Cato to finish the next volume in the series.
