I had significant difficulty getting into the story, but it is hard for me to pinpoint why. I usually put a book down, if after fifty pages I'm not engaged. Not sure why but I didn't stop at fifty, even though I wasn't sure that I wanted to continue, but I did go on. By the time I got to the seventy-fifth page, I couldn't put it down. The rest of the series has been stellar. The author's handling of sorcery is different that what I am used to reading (and that may have been why it was difficult for me to get into), but I soon appreciated that difference. The characters are well written and easy to identify with. There are numerous plots and subplots, and it is hard to tell who is good or bad, which keeps a reader intrigued. There is also a high degree of description, but it adds depth and color to the story. The love story is also wonderful and heart-wrenching. I will say nothing more about the story, itself. because letting the plots pull you in is most entertaining. I highly recommend this series.
