Overall, I really enjoyed re-reading this book. The first third especially grabbed me, and if the book had ended on page 252 instead of nearly 400 pages later, I would have been a completely satisfied reader. After that first third, the book sometimes seemed drift a bit, and lost a little focus, a little momentum. While it still had plenty of compelling events and chapters scattered throughout this final two-thirds, there were also a few less interesting sections, a little bit of clunkyness, and even weirder, certain episodes dropped from the book that would have made it feel more whole. The real ending was also not completely satisfying, and I can’t exactly put my finger on why. Suddenly there were too many characters and threads? The main thing is, the highs in the book were very high, and many of the images and scenes are surprisingly powerful. A memorable read.
