It's an action movie in book form, and it's okay for what it is. The plot is suspenseful and moves along, but otherwise the writing isn't very good. Too many "clever" descriptions, and far too much depth on the weaponry and fighting techniques. The whole thing reads like it's from the perspective of someone who wears a MAGA hat and dreams of being in a militia. Women are relegated to victims and sexy soldiers. Minority neighborhoods are stereotypical: poor single moms, drug dealers, gangs, and pot smokers. One of the female characters has inspirational quotes from Jordan Peterson on the wall. I was interested enough to read to the end, but I won't be going back for the sequel.
