I was so excited to find this book available for purchase. This was my favorite book as a child, and I loved books! I've never known anyone who ever heard of this book. I have always referred to dachshunds as pretzel dogs, and nobody would understand why. So now I'm about to be a grandma, and I'm buying it for the baby & for me; one copy for each of us. I hope he and his parents enjoy it as much as I always did. Coincidentally, they have a dachshund. I love this book! Update 1-25-19: I bought this book again. It's for my soon to be born granddaughter for her mom's baby shower this weekend. I decided to look at the reviews and was surprised at all the negative ones. I guess it's about perspective. While some people think it's creepy & stalker-ish, I've always thought of it as a good example of how not to judge someone by their looks. Greta initially judges Pretzel by his looks and rejects him. But then when he saves her life she realizes he's a good guy and she shouldn't have been so judgmental about his looks. That's the message I got when I had this book as a child and it's still the message I see in it. It's sad that others don't see the same message.
