Right from the start I could tell this wasn’t going to be the typical Highlander romance novel. It had a different feel to it. It was a love story with a good many ups and downs, It seemed that every time there was a glimmer of hope for happiness it would get brutally destroyed. Normally I would enjoy the suspense of that, so I’m a little confused as to why I didn’t love this book.
I think it comes down to me not being as invested in this novel as I should have been. The events were interesting, but just didn't have the power to pull me in on an emotional level. I liked the characters of Broen and Clarissa well enough but I didn't feel their chemistry in a visceral way. I did, however, enjoy aspects of this book so it was not a totally disappointing read. And there were parts that did hold my attention and pulled me in to some degree...it just didn't live up to the expectations I normally have for an engrossing read.
