Customer Review

It wanders and ends up nowhere. There's no arc to the characters or the story. The mystery of the world's circumstances could be intriguing but they are barely touched upon. Also "Area X" is about the cheesiest name out there for a mysterious location. And the main character lacks any scientific instinct or training at all, even though she is a biologist. She makes suppositions on top of suppositions brought out from weak evidence.

You'll see every twist coming and the suspenseful moments are over so quickly that there was no time to build any excitement.

I had to force myself to finish the book and I really hoped the ending would hook me enough to pick up the second, but it did nothing for me. I feel as though the questions weren't interesting enough for me to seek answers in following books and the characters were too drab to keep following.

Best part of the whole book was the cover art.
