I am a long time martial artist. I also love and appreciate MMA for what it is: a sport. I experienced quite a bit of first hand violence while living in Colombia, SA. With that background in mind, I figured this book probably wouldn't reveal much new to me at all. I already knew 80% of my karate training is BS, and that MMA is great but in no way a preparation for true self defense. I already knew that if you wanted reliable self defense for a life threatening situation, firearms training was my best bet so I did that, too. This book is so much more than that, though. It is an excellent explanation of the motivation behind violence and how to use that information to save your life. The price of the book is well worth the read. I learned immensely by this book. I will probably buy all of his books. Now I'm stuck trying to find a place to safely train these concepts (this book is NOT a hodge-podge of cool looking techniques). I can't see anybody serious about self defense being disappointed by reading this book, regardless of your training level.
