I actually had the opportunity to meet the author of this book, Temple Grandin, when she spoke at our college while she was on tour. She was a fascinating speaker and the book reveals a great deal about autism and the world in which autistics live. The connection between thought process and envisioning certain scenarios, in her case, is amazing to me. She explained this in her talk, and here in her book, likening this experience to watching a film. She also expresses in the book a kind of highly sensitive empathy for animals and what they might feel. For an individual who have family or friends who have been diagnosed as autistic, this book is a must read. There is a great deal revealed here by Grandin. While this may not be the experience of all autistic people, it nevertheless makes one aware of how special such people are and may further reveal how we might enter their world and understand.
