* Dries insanely fast
* Flexible in all directions
* Looks good enough to wear out at night
* Durable for hiking
* Legs roll up and snap
* Leg pocket has side entry zipper
And most importantly
* Crotch area has a couple of tiny holes, meaning both fart dissipation and general air circulation is amazing. Also means these can be worn multiple times with no funk issues.
* Price. That is the only thing that is not best in class.
I own all three brands and was immediately impressed with the prAna Stretch Zion. The fabric is very nice and stretchy and pants sit and look pretty cool. The 'ventilated' gusset crotch is a bonus.
The only thing that would make these pants perfect is an extra zipper pocket (I prefer several secured pockets, not just one).
If it happens to be on sale, grab it - I know I will.
I originally bought them as a versatile pair of pants for rock climbing when the temperature is cooler on our hike out to the crag, but warmer while climbing. The ankles roll up to a point at mid-calf where they secure to 2 snaps. It is a pretty subtle and secure design. One side or the other has unsnapped while climbing, but rarely, and it has never been problematic.
The pants are more durable than I thought they would be. They have a very soft feel to them. Despite days of climbing, they have no significant signs of wear. However, they are starting to pell on the knees a little bit. It is only noticeable if you are looking for it, but worth a mention.
The second time around I ordered XSMALL pants, and those fit just right, except for a defect that made the knee pocket's zipper poke out for everyone to see (the small piece of fabric that usually covers it is defective).
Pants fit well without being constrictive, and stretch crotch is phenomenal and comfy. Can barely feel their weight and knees don't bunch up in the way when rolled up. However, something prAna is known for is irregular fit in all their clothes, so hope you end up with a pair sufficiently long enough -- out of the three Stretch Zions I ordered, I had to return one of them because the legs were way short.
Stretch fabric is great and pants look very good, even in more formal settings if you know what to wear it with. Water-proofness repellent whatever seal didn't work well with me, but that didn't matter to me since I was primarily concerned with finding a solid pair of pants I could climb with. Pocket design and placement was a big plus for me, and I find myself using the "knee pocket" for just about everything -- so dynamic! Crotch holes aren't super-obvious and keep you cooler down there during hot days. Fabric breathed quite well for me, and whatever sweat got on it (I'm a really sweaty guy) just wicked away and dried VERY QUICKLY. Superb design! Again, if you can find a pair that fits.
I read review after review and was told these pants were virtually indestructible. This was not the case. I'm fond of off-trailing / bushwhacking, for all other nature fans that can't stand trails and fake stairwells to summits...Read more ›
