As for fit: I am athletically built, typically wear a 30" jean waist size and 30" inseam. I tried both the 30" and the 31" waist of the Zion. 30" was just a little too tight for me at the time (considering I was going on an extended vacation), but it had more modern, slimmer legs. The 31" fit my waist better at the time, and had looser legs (still not too baggy). I would say these are true to size.
There was a matter that brought it from a 5 star to a 4 though, and that was the waist on this pair was maybe an inch larger that all my other pairs. I've experienced this on many other brands of pants, lots of fluctuation, but this is a first with the 10 pairs that I have.
I work in IT and I am often crawling under desks, lifting things and bending over, etc., and these stretch perfectly unlike other work pants I've owned. On top of that they feel light while still being tough, and keep my legs very cool. The lower pocket is perfect for tools or small items, but not really noticeable if your HR is extra stingy. The built in belt works perfect, just like the shorts-style of the Zion. After a big lunch I can just let it loose if I want.
Now when I see people say "I own 6 pairs of Pranas", I no longer wonder if that might be too much for one person, I now wonder if they need more.
These pants do not look like techie fabric pants.
