Do you get to preview the shot before it prints and choose not to print a bad shot or is it an instant print like the old school Polaroids?

It's old school. But I love it because it is old school. If you're looking for one that previews and is also a digital camera, Polaroid makes one now that can do that. It's called a Polaroid Z2300 10MP Digital Instant Print Camera.

It's old school. It has a tiny mirror, so at least you can see that your face is in the frame!

No. you don't, its an instant camera, if you shot is bad you have to re-take them again.
There's no preview, no screen whatsoever, just like a old school film camera.
