3.0 out of 5 starsLimited inspiration
Reviewed in the United States on September 11, 2017
Life Without Limits wasn't as inspiring as I hoped it would be. There is definitely information and advice that is good and could be of help, but the book is more of a witness type testimony than a self help empowerment. I would not recommend this to anyone that isn't a Christian already. I also would not recommend to anyone on the autism spectrum, as this book would be of no help to at all. The ways mentioned to overcome limits one places on him or herself are things that don't work for them. Also, if you're up there in years and still don't know what God's purpose is for you, this book may actually be depressing.

2.0 out of 5 stars It's OK until he gets into his superstitious cult beliefs.

It's OK until he gets into his superstitious cult beliefs. Turns out he thinks that some crazy book with unknown authors written over centuries ago and changed and altered and hacked by scribes in days before the printing press was invented, and men who had political agendas, about a magical dude that is also a diety, and contains some horrific female defamation and talk about slaverly is a proper moral guide. I'm glad he has a positive outlook on life, but when he opens up about loving another man (who has been dead for two thousand years), and stuff like that, WHOA!!!! The first part of the book is OK, but when reason flies out the door and beliefs in silly invisible sky-god(s) take hold, I had to stop reading. I'm not sure how Nick is doing these days. Hopefully reason and intellect have become part of his life and he has quit nodding his head to the cult with the Roman torture device as their logo.

I have always admired Nick and his amazing outlook on life and I couldn't wait to start reading this book. Unfortunately, the religious side seems to be more prevalent than the story of his life. I have no issue with a person's faith - which I also have, but I wanted to read about Nick himself. It's not often that I don't read a book to its conclusion, but this just got to be too heavy going. I may return to it in a while and read it in bites.

2.0 out of 5 stars Interesting person, boring book.

While Nick is a very inspiring man, and his life can inspire many, the book seemed very trite. Many of the things he said sounded like regurgitations of things self-help books have been spouting for 30 years. In addition, it seemed very repetitive. Each chapter started with a supposedly different premise, but wound up saying essentially the same thing.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing Read
Reviewed in the United States on December 31, 2010
I jumped at the chance to read and review Life Without Limits by Nick Vujicic. I first became aware of this incredible man through a youtube video. He has an inspiring story. Nick was born without arms or legs. As you can imagine, this has presented quite a few challenges for Nick. Nick has overcome those challenges and now has a public speaking ministry around the world, telling people of God's faithfulness.

With the little I knew of Nick Vujicic, I anticipated reading the book. Unfortunately, the book did not live up to my expectations.

In his message, Nick mixes biblical truths with common secular (and unbiblical) messages that are commonly heard today. For example, early on in the book, Nick says, "Remember, God helps those who help themselves." In contrast, the Bible presents a picture of man's inability to help himself and his need for God.

His book is riddled through with similar messages of self-esteem; he encourages his readers to believe in themselves and push themselves to the limits. Nick paints a remarkably good picture of human nature and its ability to achieve great things. This is in contrast to the sinful nature of human nature Scripture presents.

That isn't to say that Nick does not acknowledge God's hand in his life. He does...frequently so. Time and time again, he talks about the lessons God has taught him and how God has sustained him.

The danger is though that he mixes a good perspective of God with a secular view of man's need for self-esteem. This creates a mixed and somewhat confusing message. He goes back and forth between different perspectives...one relying on God and then one that seems to be relying on himself.

Another example is when he says, "But the happy ending should always be your goal." Again Scripture does not assure Christians that their lives will be happy. The goal of a Christian should not be for a happy ending on this side of heaven (as Nick says) but rather to seek God's honor and glory.

So I would say, this book is one to skip. It's not entirely without worth but there are better biographies. out there that are stronger in their affirmation of biblical truth and the power of God.

I recently received a copy of Life Without Limits by Nick Vujicic from Blogging for Books to review. I was incredibly excited to learn more about Mr. Vujicic after reading an article written about him in an issue of Logan Magazine, an inspirational magazine written for young people with disabilities. In his book, Nick talks about his childhood and later his search for purposeful work. He also describes his personal philosophy for living, that your attitude determines your altitude in life. And most interestingly to me, he discusses his personal highs and lows in life: times when he considered suicide and the life changing moment when he found work he truly enjoyed, as a motivational speaker. He also elaborates on his travels and experiences that he once believed to be impossible for someone like him, someone with neither arms nor legs. All in all, this book chronicles the "impossible" adventures of Nick.

I was excited to read this book. Until I started reading. I was expecting a well written and captivating story, however this book was written in more of a self-help and devotional style. And maybe it's the research and methods driven teacher in me that was looking for exact answers to what helped him overcome the difficulties he's faced in life, but I wasn't pleased with his free flowing narrative that constantly seemed to run down wild cow trails. If you'd like to offer help, I'd like a scripted model to replicate this happiness that you've found, despite your limitations. But I know well enough that what I wish for isn't practical. Or even possible. All in all, this book just wasn't what I had expected. It was inspirational and interesting, yes, but just not what I was looking for.

I should probably add now that this has recently become one of my mother's favorite books. She's recommended it to several family friends who have enjoyed it as well. So, maybe it really is just me.

Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from Waterbrook Multnomah Publishers through the Blogging for Books program . I was not required to write a positive review. Nick Vujicic is an inspirational young man - in fact, an inspirational speaker and minister of evangelism. He was born without arms or legs, but has turned from looking at himself as disabled and pushing the limits of what it means to be able.

I very much wanted to love and recommend his book, Life Without Limits. Vujicic is a Christian and wants people to receive Jesus. He rightly believes that God is Sovereign over our lives and whatever happens to us is part of God's Plan for our lives. God can be trusted; He is not surprised or taken aback.

However, I cannot recommend this book, because its theology is, basically, wrong.

Two points:

"God helps those who help themselves" (16). Although this is a popular adage, it is simply not true. What the Bible tells us is that we are born dead, unable to help ourselves, "But God, being rich in mercy with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ - by grace you have been saved" (Ephesians 2:4-5, ESV). God doesn't give us "a leg up," (no pun or offense intended), He raises us from the dead.

"God has a truly great purpose for your life" (229). This, again, is a popular thing to say, but it is simply not true. Paul explains, "Has the potter no right over the clay, to make out of one lump one vessel for honored use and another for dishonorable use?" (Romans 9:21, ESV). God indeed has a purpose for each person, but for some, their purpose is to experience the Wrath of God for His Glory.

That being said, I wish Vujicic well. I thank God for his faith and his attitude. I would recommend more biblical and theological training.

2.0 out of 5 stars Inspired, but not wowed

Have you ever seen a YouTube video about Nick Vujicic? That was how I was first introduced for this remarkable Australian who was born with no arms or legs. If you've never heard of him, I recommend you check out his website[..]/) for videos and more. I've enjoyed watching/listening to him and admired his independence, so I was definitely interested to read and review his new book Life Without Limits. While I definitely enjoyed parts of it, I'll admit that it wasn't exactly what I expected.

I appreciated Nick's unashamed presentation of his Christian faith and the upbeat attitude that he consistently manifests. He isn't hesitant about admitting his personal struggles throughout the years, even to the point of contemplating suicide. However, he tends to jump all over the place and it's hard to follow the story line.

He is a motivational speaker, and I felt like he tried to appeal to every potential audience he might encounter - from students struggling to find self-worth to aspiring public speakers. He shared many inspiring stories from his own life and the lives of others, and I enjoyed them, but I found it hard to follow a consistent message or train of thought. I would say he is probably more suited to speaking for a short period of time to various audiences then writing a lengthy book. I am glad I took the opportunity to read his book, but it probably isn't one I'll keep on my shelves to reread time and time again.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not My Favorite Book

I recently read Life Without Limits by Nick Vujicic. It was about a young man that was born without legs or arms and he is now a motivational speaker. He was born in Australia, however now lives in the US and has gone around the world speaking to others about his disability, however that God can use this for His good and His glory.

When I first picked this book up I was really excited about that it held, however it did not hold my attention very long. Vujicic's main focus was that you can do anything that you want even if you have limited resources or have had failures in life. I felt like each chapter was just saying the same thing over and over again and I soon tired of it. It was a very easy read, however I do not think that I would recommend this book to anyone as it did not hold my attention in it being very repetitive in how it was written .

I was so looking forward to reading this book after seeing him on a church programme .However , the book seemed to jump all over the place .It was a lot about Nick's wonderful travelling , meeting diverse groups etc but I wanted to hear more about how he overcame diversity and a much more Christian ethos rather than a self help guide or motivational book .I wasn't sure which category it fitted into .

I haven't find anything in that book which make you feel to live Life without limits. May be this book is for people who are so much depressed because of any physical damage. I only read 100 pages and didn't feel to read it further.
