5.0 out of 5 starsSimple enough for science savvy 6 year old and interesting enough for his Mom.
Reviewed in the United States on December 3, 2014
My six year old is very fascinated with the elements (partly from the They Might be Giants song) and partly because he is a young science freak. This book is simple enough for him to understand and interesting enough for me to be happy reading it despite the fact it brings me back to having to retake chemistry in summer school. The visuals are very bold but seem to help him retain and remember the chemical symbols. The symbols are on the right hand corner of the page. Easy to cover and quiz.

This might be a slightly more entertaining way to help memorize and learn the elements for someone struggling to keep attention on studying them because if I find it even tolerable to read it has some entertainment value. Note that not all elements are really represented equally--some of the newer elements and less used elements are grouped together and given a page when iron is given a full page spread.

3.0 out of 5 starsCute Book, but skips a lot of elements
Reviewed in the United States on June 2, 2019
This is not a comprehensive book for the periodic table. My son was frustrated that it skipped elements. I would recommend this book instead: https://smile.amazon.com/Basher-Science-Complete-Periodic-Elements/dp/0753471973/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_sims?ie=UTF8

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Books

I came across one of the books in this series in the gift shop at the Franklin Museum and thought it would be great for my son who just started college. He has some tough classes that require a lot of memorization and these books are perfect for that... takes tough topics and breaks them down into terms easier to understand. They have great visuals too. Ended up buying 3 of them "The Period Table", "Chemistry" and "The Human Body". His study partner loved them and I bought a set for her too. Great books!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great introduction to the Periodic Table

My six-year-old gifted child has been interested in the periodic table for some time, but we struggled with finding a book that was appropriate for him. This was a great find. Lots of information, but intelligible for a child. He absolutely loved it. His major criticism is that every element on the Periodic Table is not included. For this disappointment I rate the book four instead of five stars. It was very well-written however, at about a fourth-grade level, perhaps. We will be buying more books from these authors.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great periodic table book

Great pictures, and the descriptions of the elements from a first person view are a nice touch! My only non-glowing comment is that some of the elements seemed a little short in their description.

Great books my students love, but only 2 out of the 3 ordered actually had the poster that should have come with it.

4.0 out of 5 stars An Entertaining Start to Learning About the Periodic Table
Reviewed in the United States on June 11, 2016

I bought this book for my fourth-grader who was interested in learning about the periodic table and elements. It is engaging and informative and a good way to start learning about this subject. Came with a pull out poster of the periodic table. (As you might imagine, it does not discuss each element but teaches about the groups on the table and then uses some examples of elements in that group.) We wish it had a little more information but it was a good starting place (touched on a wide array of topics -- metalloids, alloys, semi-metals, oxidation, etc) and was much more entertaining than many other books on these subjects. I would buy more books from this series.

Good book to start young students down the road of chemistry. Interesting read for all age levels. Funny, entertaining and yet educational.
