An excellent firsthand account. Absolutely absorbing. Rommel's engagements become vivid images in the readers mind because of the author's concise writing. This is the definitive edition. Don't get the abridged version. This edition has all the maps and sketches.

This book served me well as an officer in the Marines, and now is a wonderful book to stay sharp in the business world. Rommel was an outside the box thinker, and his intellectual quickness and insight is extremely useful for the tactician, the thinker, and the problem solver.

Rommel writes of his experiences in WWI fighting primarily in Rumania and what is now northern Italy. In each chapter, he details a specific operation, the problems they faced and how he solved them. He uses the stories to show how a commander should deal with certain common situations. For his leadership he won the "Blue Max" not bad for a junior officer! The illustrationa are quite helpful as the descriptions he gives are very detailed. It's probably the finest military book I have ever read, well worth the price. A fine book by a true leader...

This book is a timeless classic detailing some of the exploits of an impressive military officer's young career---the book goes into some interesting detail on various manuevers and encounters Rommel had as a young company grade officer in WWI. As a student of military tactics, I can say that some of Rommel's lessons that he outlines based off his combat experience are highly applicable to today's world. If you've read Clausewitz and liked it; you will like this as well.

The contents of this volume are a modern translation of the full version of Rommel's book. The maps and graphics are crisl and clear. This is not the sloppy abridged WW2 US Army translation, renamed Infantry Attacks, which I have purcased many years ago. Re-reading this work, especially in this translation, has been a pleasure.

Very good if you are into military history. A little dry for those that want better cohesion in writing style and deeper story.

Perfect book for infantry officers or enlisted infantry. The translation from German can feel a little forced especially in his more personal comments. Written at a level for all to understand. A chapter could easily be used as a decision point/ sand table discussion.

This book, written by Erwin Rommel, German commander in North Africa during World War II, is an excellent documentation of the experiences of Rommel as a young commander many years before WWII. It is well written, easy to read, interesting, and is all completely factual. It is interesting to see things through the eyes of the man who would later become one of the most troublesome enemy leaders the US would have to deal with in WWII. With the application sections the book is a great tool for a future military leader to learn new lessons along with Rommel.

In clear and simple writting with useful sketches, Rommel sets out his WW1 battle experiences as a young infantry officer. This is where the seeds of what became the blitzkreig were sown. The tactics enacted in 1939 with tanks had already been perfected with infantry and machine guns by 1917.
