TOP 1000 REVIEWERon September 23, 2014
Over the years, I have worked for Fortune 500 companies, small start-ups, mom and pops and my own one-man-show. One essential common ingredient in the success of all of these types of businesses is some form of effective branding strategy. Without this, you are presenting yourself to be just like the next guy and give customers no reason whatsoever to grace your doorstep. Laura Busche does an amazing job with Lean Branding, taking you through the branding process from nuts to bolts. The points that were of most interest and value to me were:

-- Various Brand Strategy Ingredients
-- Branding tactics and real life case studies
-- Branding and visual symbols
-- The included graphics, templates and tutorials
-- The psychology of branding

There is so much here that it is impossible to list it all in one little review. Suffice it to say that if you're interested in branding - and if you are in business and want to be successful, you should be! - then this is a must read.

A few nuggets here, but generally found this to be a superficial overview of branding with a weak attempt to align under the Lean Startup Methodology.

Lots of empty templates that I can fill out myself, which are unreadable on the Kindle and as somebody else said, the screenshots on how to setup a Google Adwords & other accounts is completely superfluous.

There's really not much to be learnt from this book.

Let's just talk about what this book is. It is a shortcut to deliver to quickly create your identify and test it on your market. Along with Lean Branding, it will include a bit of Customer Development. If you want to dive into Customer Development, I would also recommend the Lean book for this as well and you will see some overlapping. If you want to get up to "branding" speed in a Porshe, this is the book for you.

I am overwhelmed by the author's accomplishment of structuring the topic of branding, normally difficult to grasp, so that it is makes fun to follow.

The book builds perfectly on Steve Blank's Lean Start-Up methodology and embraces the Build-Measure-Learn loop in a very sophisticated way. This handbook has helped and will help me build a brand and position it "in the customers' mind" the way it reflects the services I am are offering.

Most people might already know that a brand is more than a logo and a name and might say "Aren't they rather generic points the book covers, what does that have to do with lean?". To that comment I would have to say: This is the first book which covers this topic in such a hands-on way and with the Build-Measure-Learn approach. Those who have read Al Ries' Positioning will see themselves reminded a lot of times. However, while Al Ries gives a lot of examples, it stays rather abstract and the reader does not get hands-on tools along the way. This book, in fact, makes you win "The battle for Your Mind" Al Ries is talking about in a very structured and nice-to-follow way, "Make-it-happen" as the author calls the sections. From now on, the Lean Branding Map is always part of my interviews, be it my Hypotheses interviews, my MVP interviews, etc.

Thank you very much for that book and all the insights you have shared with the readers so far!

Sorry but I did not like it... It was like if I was reading a huge PowerPoint: too many bullets and (empty) templates. I would have appreciate more context, more detailed and documented examples. But not the kind of printscreens proposed related to how we should set up Google adwords or others internet tools....the online help is sufficient for that. Another annoying point to me is when we systematically start a new chapter by mentioning what was in the previous one, especially when the latter closes with a recap.
