As a retired preschool and elementary teacher, I gobbled up this book. I'm headed to school tomorrow with "Oh No, Astro" tucked under my arm to share with my friends and students. From the crisp and catchy illustrations to the engaging story line of a grumpy asteroid who bravely ventures into the unknown, I had to read this enchanting book several times, finding new details with each reading. And that "Selection of Space Facts" was a hoot. How cool is that to learn about life and the cosmos in an entertaining picture book? "Oh No, Astro" is a welcome addition to my extensive children's library. I hope to hear soon of a sequel to Astro's adventures with Miss Nova....???.
Hard to believe this is Matt Roeser's first published book. It's an adorable story creatively written and illustrated. Perfect for children & the young at heart. My favorite part of the book is the selection of space facts in the back that are a wonderful compliment to the story. I can't wait to see what comes next from this talented author.
Oh No, Astro! is an engaging book based on a probably true story about an asteroid (named Astro) that is written for adults to read to space-loving children (or to themselves, as they think of books to read to their favorite nieces and nephews). The style is both witty and erudite, with enough drama and suspense to fascinate any audience.
As an added bonus, there is a selection of 10 hilarious (but mostly basically true) space FAQs at the end that will explain things like why Mars is red and what color the flag on the Moon really is.
This book was a delight to read and is sure to become a mainstay in the nightly bedtime rotation as I loved it just as much as the kids did. They keep yelling "GOOD GRAVITY!!!" Interesting and amusing space facts at the end of the book add educational insight into Astro's journey through space. And the artwork is retro and beautiful. This book rocks (pun intended!)
I just love this book. The story is simple enough for all ages to follow, but introduces new vocabulary and play on words that challenges young minds. I love that my 5 year old asks " what is an orbit?" and "do satelites really float in space"? The delightful illustrations also add another layer, peaking imaginations to grow the story beyond the words on the page.
This is a charming book about a reluctant adventurer named Astro, who just happens to be an asteroid. The illustrations are top notch and the story is humorous. Additionally this book should help children stretch their vocabulary without becoming overwhelmed. This one is all around fun!
This book is an absolute treat! A great read for kids and adults alike. I was pleasantly surprised by the section of space facts at the end. Very well done! Looking forward to future books from both the author and the illustrator.
This book was so much fun to read, I enjoyed it just as much as my kids did! What a treat seeing Astro get into his predicament and not only finding his way out but learning how something can scare us but if we learn to face our fears and problem solve, it can turn into something amazing! Excellent moral for children to learn in a fun and colorful way. And I loved the space facts at the end! Well done!
My daughter (3) and I actually found this book at our local library a few months ago. She loved it so much I immediately bought a copy. The story is cute and the illustrations are adorable. If your kiddo is into space I highly suggest picking up a copy of this book.
