When I dove down the rabbit hole of Bitcoin in late 2013, Andreas' YouTube talks and podcasts pulled me further in, and this book is a compilation of these entertaining and informative talks. The source videos are well worth watching, and this book is a good complement to them. His engaging speaking style comes through on the page, and his enthusiasm about the technical, economic, and societal changes that are possible with the invention of decentralized consensus protocols is infectious.

Beyond the more pragmatic applications of cryptocurrency for the millions of unbanked around the world, Andreas also waxes philosophic on deeper topics such as the history of money, the role cryptocurrency can play for individual sovereignty and privacy, and the implications of currency as language, where currency transfer is, at root, an expression of value akin to speech.

When I read these edited and updated transcripts, I hear them in his voice, which only makes me want to watch the linked videos all over again. This compilation is a great resource to be read, re-read, gifted, and shared with family and friends. It provides a uniquely accessible take on a mind-bendingly abstract system, and is perfect for those with a casual or budding interest in the field of cryptocurrency.

As always, Andreas knocked it out of the park. Bitcoin is a difficult concept for most people to grasp, especially at this stage. Like many other great ideas, the spark innovation starts with single person, spreads to a small group of people who are capable of understanding and appreciating its significance, and finally (usually over the course of many years) the rest of the world is dragged kicking and screaming to the conclusion that the idea is brilliant; a conclusion they later regard as "obvious, natural, and inevitable." Andreas' first book, "Mastering Bitcoin" helped many developers see the potential of Bitcoin. "The Internet of Money" is more accessible for less technical readers. There are links to videos for each section of material in the book. If you have recently considered any of the following questions, this book is for you:
What is Bitcoin?
Why should I care?
WTF is block chain?
Is it secure?
What can Bitcoin do that the dollar can't?
Who benfits?
Is Bitcoin doomed to fail?

All of these questions and more are answered in this easy-reading book. You can read about it for yourself, or have a ten-year-old break it down for you ten years from now. Either way, Bitcoin is coming.

With his encyclopaedic grasp of blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies, aided by his long involvement with the internet, as well as his training in computer science, Andreas Antonopoulos can rightfully be described as the “Carl Sagan and Alvin Toffler rolled into one” of cryptocurrencies and the blockchain. Just as Sagan brought complex cosmological theory to regular people, and Toffler extrapolated future trends from current realities, so Antonopoulos, with The Internet of Money, explains the Byzantine intricacies of the blockchain and cryptocurrencies so that non-technical people can understand what the hell this is all about. But he doesn’t stop there. Having explained what it’s about, he then presents a compelling and, I believe, prescient vision of where this is all going. I have been a bitcoin enthusiast since early 2013. Since then I have read literally hundreds of articles and all of the books published on the subject. The Internet of Money is the one I wish I had been able to read when I first got involved. I would have been saved a lot of time and money and spared much confusion and misconception.

The book begins with almost a disclaimer telling you that the text was essentially revised presentations the author has given at gatherings since 2014 or so. This gives you an idea that it might not come across as the best reading material, which is true, it isn't. In fact, every page has a quote from text I read no more than 30 seconds ago. This doesn't happen once - - it happens virtually every other page and even some chapters have identical sections to another chapter. Perhaps that could have been taken out so there is only one section and everything would be condensed and neat. However, with all of this being said, If you're considering reading this book, you probably still should. The author can help just about anyone understand bitcoin and he has some great figurative speech to relate to things we already understand. I liked the concepts, but not necessarily the execution. I still would buy the book again actually if it means he would continue putting hardwork into helping others understand bitcoin.

"The Internet of Money" is not only based on various speeches involving the topic of Bitcoin, but many other taboo subjects - such as money and privacy. The editors did a fantastic job of converting Antonopoulos' to paper by capturing his "emotion" on the pages. There are also YouTube links provided before each speech so you can watch the words come to life.

Andreas has a unique way of teaching by providing real-world examples of how Bitcoin relates to other technologies in the early stages of development. And more importantly, how certain innovations frightened people in the past before becoming mainstream...examples being the automobile, credit cards, and the Internet.

After reading "The Internet of Money," one could come to the possible conclusion that Satoshi Nakamoto may be a Greek technologist by the name of the Andreas Antonopoulos. But as Andreas would say, "it doesn't matter." And I agree.

An inspiring manifesto from a crypto luminary, worth every cent. I was sad to finish the book but I felt a renewed sense of enthusiasm for Bitcoin and the digital currency space after finishing.

The reason I am rating four stars is that on every single page there was italicized, quoted text; this was not done to introduce a new idea or to be thought provoking, rather it was a word for word reproduction of the text I had read not five seconds ago. Majorly annoying, and I had to train myself to skip these to not interrupt the rhythm of the book. Please do not do this for the next book.

Otherwise an outstanding work.

Pablo.

Andreas Antonopoulos is well-known in the blockchain community for Mastering Bitcoin: Unlocking Digital Cryptocurrencies, released in January 2014, the first serious textbook describing the inner workings of Bitcoin. As a self-proclaimed (and confirmed) computer geek, who came of age during the early days of the Internet, Andreas is intimately familiar with the technical underpinnings of Bitcoin as well as the ongoing developments in this burgeoning field. His first book is an excellent reference for the technically-minded who desire to fully comprehend the transformative computer science breakthrough the Bitcoin protocol so ingeniously instantiates.

But even more than a ground-breaking author, Andreas is truly a Bitcoin ambassador of the highest-order. He is a brilliant educator, always communicating with clear vision and passion, traveling across the globe these past three years, inspiring and enlightening growing numbers of people who are eager to learn about the revolutionary innovation of cryptocurrencies. Andreas’s profound technical expertise is complemented by his uncanny gift for making complex topics readily accessible to lay audiences. He is utterly convincing in his arguments for why Bitcoin REALLY matters—how this radically new “technology of money” in the age of the Internet will, slowly but surely, turn our old paradigms inside out. His recently released second book, The Internet of Money, an edited compilation of some of his best presentations, is an absolute must read for anyone and everyone who wants a sneak-peak at the future of finance and banking. Read this book (and watch the source videos) to gain deep insights into HOW and WHY Bitcoin will change the world for the better in the coming decades!

The Internet of Money is an excellent read regardless of if you're a long-time cryptocurrency enthusiast or someone who has only heard of Bitcoin in passing. Andreas presents a multitude of concepts with easy to understand comparisons to historical events in order to explain why Bitcoin is much more than just digital money. He also makes convincing arguments that while Bitcoin is still quite difficult to understand and use, it will continue to evolve and scale just like the Internet has over the past several decades. If you want to understand why Bitcoin is a revolutionary technology without getting bogged down in the technical details, you should read this book.

I recommend this book to every bitcoin enthusiast like me who doesnt know the technical side of it, I just love that Satoshi created this wonderful thing called bitcoin :)

I love how Andreas speak about bitcoin and I've always wanted to have a copy of his speech transcripts, I'm really happy that I have it now! Not years from today. I love ebooks!!

Andreas was right abt the internet in the '90s and in my opinion, he is right about Bitcoin. We are in the middle of an awesome history in the making, and you wouldn't want to miss reading his speeches. Lots of things to learn from him. I love his insights!

I dont fully understand how Bitcoin works and I dont know if it will play out the way many people positively think... but I believe in it because I see highly intelligent people behind Bitcoin.

This book reinforces my belief in Bitcoin, can't wait for his 2nd, 3rd and infinite numbers of bitcoin books!! :)

Thank you Andreas for everything you do for Bitcoin!! <3

This is a great resource. I love short stories, and so this speaks to me - don't have to invest a lot of time trying to read through its entirety at once because you can just open it up and choose to read an excerpt and then come back for more. And of course it begins with one of his most influential talks - classic - Disrupt in Greece 2013. "You want disrupt? I've got disrupt."
