Apparently there is a rebate offer inside this book for writing a review of this book. The nice thing though, is it doesn't have to be good. You get the rebate regardless. So, I'll give it to you straight up:

Pros:
The book is easy to follow.
It's great for beginners (if you are a beginner that's a pro)
It covers the main social platforms of today
There are a lot of noted resources for support

Cons:
The book is only the basics
The book does not dive into how to make money using social media, just how to use it. For example, it talks about Pinterest, but not how you make money doing the things you're told to do. (At least not in great detail)
The how to use it is limited to one central idea. (For example, LinkedIn is all about building a profile, but nothing about advertising)
The book isn't digital. This book would be great in a digital format wherein you could interact with it, check out the many links, etc.

Result:
If I'm unfamiliar with a specific platform, this book gives me a great, fast into to that platform. The book is awesome if you're a one-man-marketing department with a need to quickly get up to speed. As a professor, I probably wouldn't use this book because of it's basic nature, but as an entrepreneur with a small business I see the application.

I have been a virtual student of Dr. Jason McDonald for the past 5 or so years. I went from zero knowledge about SEO to becoming a competent content creator who has enjoyed writing articles and blogs for concerns all across the USA, and in the United Kingdom as well. Dr. McDonald has also allowed me to be a part of his webinars, which are virtual classrooms in which he teaches the ever-changing science of SEO.

If you don't want to waste time sorting through all the dubious advice of the thousands of SEO "gurus," and you want to avoid getting tainted advice that could get you BANNED from Google, YouTube, Amazon, and other essential platforms, then gift yourself a copy of this book and get signed up for Dr. Jason McDonald's webinars. He also has a special web page for purchasers of the book where you can download tons of free, and valuable SEO tools, worksheets, and more.

If you follow my reviews on Amazon, you know that I am generally very hard-nosed. I want my readers to get the best value for their hard-earned dollar. This review community has saved me from wasting money on many occasions, and I always seek to do likewise for others. Be careful when you see the ONE STAR WONDERS and other detractors. Jason McDonald and the JM Internet Group are an established, authoritative source for social media marketing, SEO, and related topics. To state otherwise is simply disingenuous.

This book will be an invaluable asset to anyone seeking to learn and deploy the latest and greatest SEO techniques.

I received this book at a discount in exchange for providing unbiased feedback. I bought the 2016 version of this workbook towards the end of 2016, and never really got around to doing much with it. I was hoping the 2017 version, though, with its updates, would include working with Instagram which is where I want to focus my marketing efforts (unfortunately it didn't). I consider myself a beginner who really resists marketing, and even with just getting on board with social media in general. This book, however, did an excellent job of guiding me through the processes. I appreciate that so much! I found most chapters were relevant and helpful, with timely prompts for review, and tools and downloadable sheets for exploring further. Invaluable! Jason McDonald's writing is succinct, and easy to read and comprehend, putting it a notch above most other social media marketing resources out there. He seems to know just what we need, even when we might not! I still hope in the next version that Instagram will be included! Thank you for a really great resource!

This is a workbook, just as it says. It's not a broad, conceptual book, seeking to swing you to a new viewpoint from which you will then build a strategy. Nor is it a book working at the nano level, all about making those tiny tweaks which change your "metrics" by 3%. Instead, this book gives you the basic understanding of how the major social media platforms work, and how to navigate them. Jason (the author) provides valuable examples and details for context to see how each might (or might not) fit into your own work and customer interaction. And then he gives you specific tasks to help you determine what you should be focusing on, help you gather relevant, specific information, and begin building what will serve you best. Perhaps most importantly, he is super encouraging, and shapes your expectations (of the platforms and yourself in this work). His website has a huge amount of supporting pages which expand and personalize what the book provides. Very valuable.

This is a WORKbook. It provides the tools to figure out what what you should be doing, and the tools to then do it. With quite a few good laughs along the way. Highly recommended!

I very much like this book. The layout is easy to read and navigate. I like that it is offered in both Kindle and pdf formats (as well as others).

The live links in the pdf are helpful and make using the exercises much easier. Being able to go immediately and directly to the examples, resources and exercises allows the reader/learner to completely immerse oneself in the subject.

The division by social media type allows the reader to deeply delve into the platform they want to work on first, i.e. facebook, youTube, LinkedIn etc. By dividing this way the marketer can get one platform up and running strong and then begin building and working on the others.

This is a great book for the beginner social marketer, business owner or seasoned marketer. The beginner will get the tools and information needed to begin their journey in social marketing, while the more seasoned or experienced marketer (like myself) can glean nuggets of information to strengthen and expand what they are already doing.

This workbook is giving me just the right amount of information about using social media for marketing my small architecture firm. The content is a perfect mix of theory and practice, providing a framework for understanding social media marketing and achievable steps for actually putting it into practice.

The author starts by giving a high level overview of how to think about social media marketing in a chapter titled Party On. As he states, the chapter explains the "distinction between 'attending' the social media party and 'throwing' the social media."

He then moves into chapters on Facebook Marketing, LinkedIn Marketing, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest, Yelp & Google Local, and an Epilogue. These chapters never send you deep into-the-weeds on needlessly technical details, but do bring you up-to-speed quickly and give you clear TODOs and step-by-step instructions. There are also pertinent tools and resources near the end of each chapter.

I like the straightforward presentation of the material in each chapter. The tone is upbeat and humorous.

My only constructive critique is that the cover photo seems at odds with the content. Although the image does show the "can-do" attitude of the book, it does not really convey the business side of it.

I have never given social media marketing much thought, but this workbook is actually making it interesting and easily accessible. I am very happy with this purchase. It is meeting my needs exactly. Note: I was given a free "review copy" of the workbook.

Social media marketing is no longer something any business can ignore. However, learning effective social media strategies, along with the right tools, to make it easier and more effective can be like searching for the proverbial needle in a haystack. There are countless numbers of books and courses on the subject, but most leave you feeling like you learned just enough to realize you have no clue what to do next. That is not the case with "Social Media Marketing Workbook 2017".

This book simplifies social media marketing as a whole, then breaks it down for the different platforms. What makes this book better than the rest is that it also gives you the tools you need to make your first (or next) social media marketing campaign less mind-boggling work -- and more effective. This book is perfect for any size business -- or for anyone who wants to learn to use social media as a way to market products, services, or ideas.

Please take it from me. I've spent the past fifteen years as a copywriter, which means I've read hundreds of books on all types of marketing and advertising. This book is the most comprehensive resource you will find on the topic of social media marketing.

This book was one of the required textbooks for a Social Media Marketing class that I am taking at the local community college. I wasn't sure what to expect from the book because I had not taken any social media classes before. However, I was pleasantly surprised at how easy the book was to read and understand. The author, Jason McDonald, breaks down topics in an easy to comprehend format. The book also contains many visual elements that help explain the various subjects. Overall, this is a great book for people who want to learn about social media. It does appear to be geared toward beginners, so if you're already a social media expert, you might want to find another option. Disclosure: I was gifted a review copy of this book.

Well written, easy to follow and packed with information. If you are serious about your online presence then this should be a purchase you make. It also comes with a free PDF version of the book (and other free tools) so the book (and all of it's info) is even more portable and all of the (many) links that are mentioned in the book are clickable, two thumbs up!
