I have followed the author Dr. Aaron Horschig for a while on instagram. Man, that guy knows what he's talking about I still use most of the tips and advice I learned from his instagram account as a strength and conditioning coach as well as for my own lifts. So I decided to purchase his book.

I wanted to see Dr. Aaron Horschig dive deeper into correctives in his book. But thats is not what I found.

The Squat Bible is a great book for beginning lifters or coaches. It teaches the squat basics of each fundamental squat patterns (back squat, front squat, overhead squat). The book then goes into a concept known as the Joint-by-Joint Concept, previously discussed in other books such as Mike Boyle's "Functional Training". Horschig then breaks down each joint and why they are important for the squat.

Pros:
-Easy Read
-Simple Concepts (Don't have to be in the field to understand the writing)

Cons:
-Price (25 dollars for 125 pages of basic information)
-The book felt like regurgitated information posted previously on his instagram account (why give info for free, when you can put it in a book and sell it)
-The concepts may be too simple
-Nothing new or groundbreaking
-Hoped for more correctives and screenings... didn't get it

Takeaway:
Overall this book would be great for a beginner coach or powerlifter trying to learn more about the squat.
But after reading the book once, it will just collect dust on the shelf because there is no information worth looking back on.

First off, I have to say Dr. Horschig really know his stuff. There is no question he's an authority on the subject of squatting, one of the most important basic human movements. So just as one reviewer gave this book a 5 star review before even receiving it (I guess as a vote of confidence?), I pre-ordered it without having had a chance to see it first via the "Look Inside" function of Amazon. I expected it would move forward and elaborate on the information that is available on Dr. Horschig's website, his Youtube videos, etc. However, I was disappointed, and need to agree with another reviewer who took exception to the fact that much of the information presented in the book is in fact not new. In the absence of new information, from a strictly price point of view, if you compare this book with say the outstanding book by Kelly Starrett, "Deskbound," which is almost 400 pages and also $25, this rather thin book does strike one as being overpriced. If that doesn't discourage you and don't mind a printed version of the material Dr. Horschig has presented elsewhere, the information is good.

We've all heard of how important technique is in lifting weights...finally...Dr. Horschig sets us straight and breaks down the SQUAT in a fundamental and scientific way. This book will change your thinking on the importance of the squat in your life. As a Texas high school strength and conditioning & football coach, this is a must have for anyone who desires to take their personal ability or professional knowledge of exercise to the next level!

Perfect blend of content and readability. The book is 125 pages, but stuffed with content. By focusing only on the squat the author gives himself plenty of room to elaborate on important points and to adequately explain the value of each principle along the way. I love a book that doesn't shy away from telling you why, and in The Squat Bible this is addressed in a way that is readable and the complex concepts seem simple.

This book is extremely game changing to my squat routine! not only did it enhance my performance on the squats but it properly gives the readers knowledge of what it means to truly squat and get rid of ego lifting. Proper steps to relieve common squat injuries and how to prevent them! Dr. Aaron Horschig is my inspiration to become a better massage therapist and to be a physical therapist like him one day! Extremely high ROI!

Excellent book. Joint by joint screenings to find the problem(s), mobilization, foam rolling, and stretching for each joint, and a break down of different squat techniques with some extra chapters sprinkled in. Clear, easy read, great content, I don't see how you could want much more. I'm very happy with this book. Thanks Dr. Horschig!

This book is worth the read. It breaks down the movement in both intuitive and scientific ways in order to provide a clear and realistic means for analysis by coaches as well as personal development by athletes.

Plus, the bit of science in the last chapter is totally worth it as a quick introduction to kinematic systems.

Love the book LOVE the content, covers all angles of assessing the squat, the only complaint I have is the first time i opened the book was that the binding fell apart and the pages came undone.

As a previous reviewer stated this book doesn't present any new information. Most of it is taken from Kelly Starret,Gray Cook,Mike Boyle and Stu McGill. However the content is packaged and summarized well making it an appropriate guide for new trainers and people interested in mastering their squat, and that's my reason for the 4 star rating.
