How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 stars Detailed information derived from years of research into sustainable gardening in small spaces

I bought this book years ago when I had a sizeable garden area. I loved it. Easy to read, in-depth research explained on what works and why. A must for a serious gardener who doesn't necessarily want a tome-sized garden book.

My father taught all of us kids the importance of being as self sustaining as possible. Mr. Jeavons gardening book helped show me how to do that without needing a lot of property. We love the fresh vegetables we harvest throughout the year! I bought all my siblings a copy for Christmas!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good supplement to "How to Grow More Vegetables..."

I also have "How to Grow More Vegetables...",which is very comprehensive, if not a little overwhelming. This pared-down version of that book is a much simpler, easier to read instruction for this version of gardening. I found the planting charts easier to read and it narrows its focus to just the most common vegetables grown in an American garden. I'll be referencing back to the original book for the "other" vegetables and cover crops.

My only complaint or "unfulfilled desire" is that this book, as well as most gardening books out there, do not look at the many climates we have in the states. I live in central Florida, which has a sub-tropic (aka Caribbean or SE Asian) type of climate. Our growing season and available "traditional" crops are much different from the rest of the 90% of the US, including southern CA, which has more of a Mediterranean climate. I wish that Mr Jeavons would create a publication that dives into the many climate regions that the US has and the challenges and benefits of each region.

All-in-all...a quality publication that is a useful for starting point for beginners and a good reference or checkpoint for veterans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Biointensive primer

This is an excellent book for new gardeners and for old gardeners new to the biointensive method. Tells how to build a garden the right way, from the bottom up. If growing one's own food is the best way to stop the insanity of agribusiness, then John Jeavons is a mild-mannered but effective revolutionary leader. He enlightened hundreds of thousands of us with his 1974 groundbreaker How to Grow More Vegetables (than you ever thought possible on less land than you can imagine).

This is a wonderful reference book for the beginner, (me), and I would suggest that anyone seriously wanting a garden, buy this book in paper back or hard cover.

We can all make little gardens, it does not take 5 acres (though that would be nice). Here is a 1 2 3 approach to building a garden and enjoying the fruits of your labor!

Lots of good information. I'll keep as a reference. Easy read. Kind of synopsis of the "Grow Biointensive" framework. Recommended. Lost a star because the original biointensive stuff is more complete.
