How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

3.0 out of 5 starsFast spoken narration
Reviewed in the United States on August 21, 2018
I really enjoyed the content and subject of the book. However, Mr Rigsby's narration was a bit hurried, spoken fast, with barely a pause between paragraphs much less chapters. This would be understandable, as most people are not accustomed to reading an entire book aloud much less recording an audiobook. Normally, I have to increase narration speed on most audiobooks, but with this one, I had to slow it down. Even then, there were very few pauses or breaks in his narration. I had read and listen at the same time, or just read without the audio. I would have enjoyed the audio so much more if the author's narrationhad been more natural and relaxed.

4.0 out of 5 stars From Speech to Teach

I like many others listened to the speech Dr. Rigsby gave before reading the book. What I found interesting was that Dr. Rigsby wrote a book about common sense that has failed in the current generations. The book spoke on lessons and understandings that I was raised on as well though I was an 80s child. Perhaps because my upbringing happened in Eastern Europe is why at 35, I connect with the older generations more then the younger ones. Knowing the value of hard work. The only real downside to the book was that it wasn’t written as a story but as a speech. And speeches are hard to really penetrate in book form. I would have wished for this book to really go into his background with his father maybe even chronologically as opposed to jumping from different timelines. But that’s just a personal preference. Would recommend for anyone to read.

This was a quick read filled with inspiration and motivation. If a third grade dropout could accomplish what Dr. Rigsby's father did, then I can do better. This is a book that I will share with the middle and high school students I work with. Hopefully, they will be inspired and motived to use their talents and intellect to be productive, prosperous citizens.

A book that reminds you of the simple principles of life like treating others the way you want to be treated. Also that we are no longer a society that lends a hand when someone is in need but one that seek self gain. I recommend this book if you have forgotten the basic rules to a rewarding life.

This book was easy to read and full of insights and
wisdom gleaned from the authors father.
Even though his father was forced to leave school at
a young age to work at the family farm/home he lives
a full, meaningful life.
The insights shared are still appropriate for today's
generation.

Best book to read if you need a reminder of the "basics" of how to treat others and yourself with respect and dignity. We are a reflection of our ancestors and those that will come after us. This should be a required reading for High school Seniors.

After watching Rigsby's commencement speech on YouTube, I was a little let down by the book. Not that anything in the book wasn't admirable, I was just expecting a little more. Overall, the book should be presented to people of all ages as a guide to properly get through life.

The lessons were practical and true. I got a lot out of this book and would recommend it to anyone struggling to find their way in life as well as those who need a reminder of basic life lessons we grew up with.

Being from the same generation as the father, I continued reading the book in recognition of the same values instilled in me by my parents . It is an accurate description of that generation as well as an accurate description of shortcomings of the next generation. Good life advice for all.

A lot of learning can be done, even from a teacher without higher education. From the school of hard knocks, with a dash of life experience, the author paints a picture of solid education via simple living.
