How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

3.0 out of 5 starsHeavier Emphasis on *History* than Photographic *Art*

Beware that this is more a history book about the early days of photography, than it is a retrospective of photography as an art form. The dimensions of the book are small, the photographs themselves are very small, and the text is very dry (think: textbook dry). I was hoping to learn more about photography as an art form. Also, "From 1839 to the Present" only goes to the 80's and 90's. Very little color, and certainly nothing digital. Finally, all the photographs come from one source: The George Eastman Museum in Rochester, NY.

This is a beautiful book with excellent information. The reproductions of the photographs are very very good. The writing is informative and well done. I highly recommend. I am a high school photo teacher, and I am using this book for research for teaching photo history in my classes.

5.0 out of 5 stars To move forward you need the past

A great history of photography in one book. I found by looking back at photography's masters. I could refresh old ideas into new projects for myself. Where, I applied lessons learn in the past with today's cameras and I found it has made me a better photographer. Not only were many of these masters leaders in what they chose to photograph, but also raised the bar for those coming after them. A great book for anyone wishing to move their photography into an art form.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Information, but Difficult to Navigate

Wonderful information and pictures that follow right along with my History of Photography class. My only compliant is how ridiculously long the chapters are! I can hardly even tell where they begin and end. It's frustrating when I have chapter summaries to turn in for my class!!! And the glossery is very unhelpful as well.

Iplan to suggest it to my students and part of their basic photographic history library. Images are from the Eastman Museum collection, one of the best.

We saw this book at the Getty and we’re happy to find it online. The book was listed as very good, but a badly bent corner and a broken spine does not quite seem to be a book in very good condition to me. The contents of the book itself were terrific though.
