I will try to update this review in a few months too. So far after 3 weeks I have no issues at all. It makes great coffee. Easy to clean, I just rinse the inside after every use and dry it. Mine doesn’t clog, the wood looks as good as the day I got it. The coffee is great for a pour over. I love it...I do love my French press and aero press, moka pot also, each makes different cup of coffee..

The glass is thin, I knew that before I got it, I got a chemex cozy so as not to have issues putting in down on my Granite Counter. I can see it lasting a long time as long as I don’t bang it down or was the wood with hot soapy water a lot...so far it’s beautiful and makes a nice cup of coffee.. so far it’s my favorite for a simple easy good cup of coffee... it gets used 2 to 3 times a day.

I purchased a Chemex for my husband for Christmas. He loved it because coffee tasted smoother. Seven months into using it, it developed a hairline crack. I emailed Chemex about its warranty and was told they would only honor it if it was purchased directly from Chemex. Why in the world would anyone purchase it from a retailer then? So, disappointed about that so I will not be purchasing another especially if it doesn't even last a year.

Don't pay a premium price for a fragile product and terrible customer service.

TLDR: This is a cheap product and chemex will provide exactly zero customer service if you buy your product here.
I could not more highly recommend buying one of the 40 knockoff products that cost half as much, will work exactly as well, and have comparable customer service.

I purchased this coffee maker just one week ago to replace a chemex 6 cup brewer that I had previously owned for 2 years. After making my fourth cup of coffee, I went to rinse the coffeemaker but accidentally tapped the faucet with top of the coffeemaker.

This was a tap. Not a bump or bang. A large triangular section cleanly popped right out of the top of the chemex coffeemaker. The coffeemaker did not shatter. There were no cracks or splinters of glass. Just one large piece that popped right out with no resistance.

I was very disappointed, but figuring I had the product less than a week, I reached out to amazon. Amazon told me that they were just a middle man and directed me to the chemex storefront. I sent them a customer service ticket and was promptly informed that amazon sold me the product and they would do nothing to help. I opened another ticket following up and informing them that amazon had directed me to them. They sent back the equivalent of a shrug emoji and closed the ticket.

I implore you to spend your hard earned money with another company.

Product worked fine for about a dozen uses. Coffee tasted alright–but I wouldn't recommend using this for really expensive, fresh-roasted coffee because it does reduce the flavor profile significantly compared to a French press.

Plus, the glass just broke after half a dozen uses, when I was pouring 200F water onto the grounds from my electric kettle. That's 5F lower than the recommended temperature for brewing coffee, by the way, so not even max temp.

Overall, not interested in a replacement. If it didn't break and I wanted something without plastic to replace my typical coffee maker, I might try again. My stainless steel French press will work just fine, though, so I'll stick with that.

The best cups of coffee I've had in my life.

I've had many coffee makers prior to this, many automatic drip makers, a cheap espresso maker, a metal filter over the cup pour over, but this one takes the cake for the best coffee I've ever had. Nowhere have I ever gone has made better coffee than this Chemex has. It has a very distinctive look that is very decorative, but utilitarian. It is a 6 cup maker, 30 oz, so 5 oz each, so keep that in mind.

The glass itself is very solid, but not super thick nor super thin, definitely still need to be careful with it, as it is indeed glass. The wood isn't too bad, but I hear that it could have it's finish worn down, but it's wood, it can be re-done very easily. What cannot be easily re-done is putting that collar back on. I dread the day I have to remove it for the first time and figure out how to get it back on.

Also cleaning wise, this thing is a pain with a regular rag, or sponge, or paper towel even. You really do need their coffee brush or something like it, so I might cough up the cash for that soon. Their filters are expensive. 20$ USD for 100 usually, and not found at all supermarkets, but they're the reason this chemex grants as good a flavor as it does. I strongly recommend buying this pour over, if you are ready to have excellent coffee, but I also recommend a grinder as well.

The 8 cup Chemex was a perfect fit for our family group and provided wonderful flavor. My only question was whether to use the dishwasher to wash it. After trying out several positions I found I could use the bottom shelf and lean it up on the middle shelf. After several washings, I noticed a small crack between the lower neck and the larger body of the Chemex. I could not feel any broken line in the glass, but was somewhat nervous about it. So I am buying a replacement, since it makes really, really great coffee, so! I am purchasing another 8 cup one and won't use the dish washer. Can you suggest the best washing method? Or is it obvious that I need to use a brush and not the dishwasher. It's worth it! Suggestions? You guys make us study users a brush? Shep Kellam

Item is not the same as box photo

The box shows an awesome heavy duty looking thick glass - since this was priced $20 higher I was under the impression it would be the thicker glass like the box shows but no - it is the cheap thin glass I could have purchased for more than $20 less - this is cheap over priced garbage. Do not get fooled like I was. It functions but it in no way has the durability like the box picture shows. It looks cheap.

Great product, slight negatives

Purchased this glass pour over for my girlfriend, along with the recommended matching Stainless steel mesh filter. She loves the look, it's easy to use, and holds just enough coffee to fill 2 large sized coffee mugs, and the taste is . . . well, it's a pour over. You just can't beat the taste.

The downfalls.

1. The strainer could use a handle or grab tab. Especially to grab it after use and remove from the glass unit. Being the grounds are usually still hot -- it's a bit cumbersome to remove out of the top of the glass unit.
2. There is no easy way to clean this product. So I would recommend investing into a long handled scrub brush, because personally I do not want to have to remove the leather tie and wood (required for dishwasher cleaning) every time I want to clean this product.
3. The stainless steel strainer is extremely slow . . . extremely slow. If you're OK with taking lots of time to pour your hot water over the grounds, that's fine. If not -- I would recommend the Chemix cone paper filters. They are much faster.

Difinitevely better coffee

I no longer use my Keurig. I use this along with a stainless cone filter instead of using the paper filters designed for it. I can't explain why it improves the taste of coffee, but it does. Even friends at work who are used to drinking a low-quality coffee made from a Bunn maker and who drink coffee solely for the caffeine rather than taste could taste the difference when I made them their coffee in my Chemex. Now that I've introduced them to some good quality beans, I'm afraid gas station coffee will no longer do for them.

It does its job perfectly with first time as practice

Tried this pour over coffee system today with the gold kone filter. The system is great but takes a couple of tries to get the coffee strength just the way you want it. I tried two different kinds of beans and two different grind levels. The first was with regular coffee beans and a medium coarse grind, which I had to pour out...too weak. The second time I used dark roast coffee beans from Starbucks (Komodo) and ground the beans finely- not espresso grind but very fine. It made a rich coffee the way I like it. So, if you like coffee that's medium strength, I would make sure to use very fresh beans ground medium-fine, not at all coarse. I used an electric water cooker and poured the boiling water into my new swan-neck pour over water pitcher and took my time pouring it over the grounds in the gold kone. It turned out perfectly the second time with the fine grounds. I would have bought the 8 cup if I had known better, however this does the job for 1-2 people. This system replaced my Kuerig and is better than wasting water with a large machine. I am thinking about getting the glass top to go with it. So, I have this now and an espresso maker and I'm super pleased!
