Great pressure cooker

Great pressure cooker and seems very safe. This brand uses a different concept then other pressure cookers I have used. The lid goes in the pot and pushes up to seal so it would be impossible to open the lid if any pressure is in the pot. The only thing I would like to see is maybe a video on the correct jingle of the pressure release valve. It’s much quieter then other jingle styles that I feel like I’m not at a high enough heat but it is by design per the manual. Just would like to see a video from the manufacturer showing exactly what they are referring to.

Also putting the lid on is weird at first but you quickly get used to it.

Not Dishwasher Safe

This is not dishwasher safe. Description doesn’t say that and in its instruction booklet this is mentioned in fewest words possible somewhere in a long paragraph of instructions at some page in almost middle of booklet.

It will loose its all outer paint and shine if washed in dishwasher

I had my first one for about 30 years! This is exactly the same product. I use it all the time. I braise meat before stewing, steam, can, quick cook dry beans.... Everything! My favorite thing is the way the lid locks. It's such a simple integrated design. I recommend purchasing an extra vent thingy (in case you misplace the original) and a couple of extra gaskets. I only had to throw out one cracked gasket in 30 years, so you may not ever need it, but just in case...
It takes a while to learn the way of the steam vent, but you will. I have a gas range, so it's easy to adjust the flame until the pressure cooker is just barely hissing. You do have to give it time to release pressure to check on the doneness of foods. I put a dishcloth over the vent and put the whole thing directly under the vent Hood. This is not recommended because you can get a steam burn, so be careful! I cook a lot and I just love this pot.

When my mother sold her house, she gave me a 1987 5L Futura model which sat in my basement for 3 years. I finally decided to use it and after getting the knack for getting the lid on and off, I really liked how it performed as well as the simplicity of the design. So I went and bought myself the 2L Futura for making smaller amounts of legumes and grains during the week for myself. Compared to a 4.2L Zavor I just purchased, other than lacking a lower pressure mode in the Futura, I feel the Futura is better built and I prefer using the Futura. I almost returned the 2L Futura but changed my mind. I was looking at the Fissler 2.7L and decided that for the money, this is a much better bargain. I also own a Kuhn Rikon 7L Dramatic, the older version. For efficiency, this is far better than either the Zavor or Futura. If Kuhn Rikon has a 2L model that was reasonably priced, I might have considered that over the Futura, but nonetheless I am totally satisfied with this 2L Futura.

And all that has broken is the front handle which does not effect the use whatsoever. We are cooking for six people vegetarian diets and could not be without this workhorse. It has lasted twice as long as other brands and I expect it to last another 3-4 years. Just make the front handle metal Futura! It looks ugly with the broken plastic but it works great so i wont part with it. When it finally does give up the ghost, I'll buy the newest model.

This is more of a "personal" cooker, sized for smaller contents. To cook for more than the two of us, I'd have to use a larger 3 or 4-liter cooker. But... other than the small size, the quality and design is impressive. This is a first-rate product, easy to use and clean, and very safe. We've used the typical American cookers (Presto, etc) with the outside lugs and rocking regulator for years, and are very comfortable with them. It takes a little time and study to get familiar with this design of interior locking lid and the concealed regulator with its 'whistling' release feature... but I adapted quickly and now am just a comfortable with it as the other style. These are great little cookers. I highly recommend.

This pressure cooker is perfection. The lid is the only annoying bit, but it looks so darned good in my kitchen that I can't really complain.

The bottom is heavy duty. This means that when I cook something in there, it's not going to burn to the bottom in this horrible glue-like layer of burning and horrible that happens in cheaper pressure cookers. Also, because it's got such a heavy pot situation going on throughout the pot, it holds heat very well, and gets hot good and quickly. When I make split peas, or other sticking-prone things in here, I have absolutely no problems at all.

When making brown rice, split peas, or other things that tend to foam up a lot: fill the cooker no more than half full (including water!). If you think that 7 litres is too big for you, consider this: the lid needs a bit of wiggle room to get in and out. You're not going to be able to fill it more than 1/2 the way full (INCLUDING WATER) when it's a foamy thing (like beans, or rice; which means that when making those things, the total volume cannot exceed 3.5 litres, which isn't really that much, because 500 grams of beans needs around 1 1/2 litres of water, so when you add that volume along with the volume of the beans, you're working with a razor-thin margin here).

Furthermore, if you're a single person, like me, you can cook more than one thing at a time. Go to the Chinese store, Indian store, or Dollar store and pick up those cheap stainless steel bowls that will fit into your cooker. Throw the included trivet down onto the bottom. Then, add your long-cooking ingredient (like beans), and your shorter cooking ingredient (like rice) into the bowl. Add water for the rice, add water for the beans, slam the lid on, and let it all cook at once. Top to tail, you'll spend like 20 minutes or so to get the thing up to pressure, cooked, and quick-cooled. While the pressure cooker is going, you just sautee off some spices, garlic, onions, whatever, and have it ready for your food. Dinner in 20 minutes, and you didn't have to use tinned beans.

I do use this for small quantities, and it works just fine. I use it for large quantities, and it works just fine. The point is that this pressure cooker is the best I've used in my life, even amongst Hawkins pressure cookers. My mother always owned Hawkins or Presto. I've used this model on both gas and electric with excellent results. The others can't quite make that same claim. This is worth every penny.

I purchase my first Futura over three years ago and have just recently purchased two more for my daughters. My family loves potted meats, stews and chii. The making them in this pot is extremely easy and produces a more flavorful finished product then by any other method we have yet found. The 5 liter pot will handle a two to three pound chuck roast. If you need a larger roast buy the larger size pot. The five liter is perfect for a family of four.

Cooking time are longer than advertised because they do not mention the required browning times, and that most recipes require that the pot be cooled down after the meat is cooked before the potatoes and vegetables can be added. Still. given the extra time required for those steps a full pot roast will take about one hour and ten minutes. Stews, chili, flanken, and shanks, a little less. A standard recipe starts with the browning of the meat in a few tablespoons of oil, about ten minutes, then browning the onions, five minutes, adding the liquid and flavorings and bringing to a boil, ten minutes on my stove, putting on the top and bringing up to pressure, five minutes, then cooking the meat, thirty five minutes for a roast. Once the meat is cooked cooling the pot under running water so it can be opened, five minutes, adding vegetables, closing the pot and bringing back up to pressure ten minutes then final cooking five minutes, and finally the last natural cooling so pot can be opened 15 minutes. All totaled this is about one hour thirty five minutes vs three hours in the oven or stove top.

The hour and a half to make the pot roast is almost all busy time where the pot must be attended to vs mostly unattended time for the oven method. So buying the pot makes sense to save time, but the real reason is the great flavor that the pot produces. The gravies are outstanding, the meats tender, and the vegetables firm and perfect. The best way to use the pot is to cook a day ahead of time, let the finished product cool in the frig overnight, remove the chilled fat from the top, reheat and serve. Phenomenal. Can not recommend high enough.

This is my first pressure cooker and I really like how much more flavor everything has cooked this way. I am never cooking in a slow cooker again. That is for sure.
Well built and sturdy. Built like a tank! This should last much much longer than any silly electronic pressure cooker (instant pot etc.). Made in India. And apparently nobody has as much experience in building these things. Thank you Hawkins!

This is the most safe pressure cooker. The design is great once you learn how to put the top on. You will have less fear of the pot because there is not a rocker on the top flopping around. Because it is like a regular pot, I truly use it to moisten leftovers from a restaurant or yesterday meal. It cut cook time in half. As you can tell I truly love my pressure cooker. The first one lasted 10+ years; I only had to replace the seal around the lid, that was not to pricey.
