Like all OXO products, it's easy to see why this mandoline is so highly rated and reviewed. My only complaint, such as it is, is that had I used this device before buying I probably would have chosen another, simpler mandoline. Versatility comes at a price, and in this case the price is weight and complexity. Granted, OXO has done a great job making this unit as easy to use as possible. But after using the very simple Boerner V-Slicer for 20-some years, the OXO seems like overkill. To solve this problem I ended up buying a very lightweight and well-engineered Kyocera mandoline for less than $15. When I need to slice large items or need julienne strips, the OXO is great. But for smaller, simpler jobs, I now reach for the Kyocera.
